Hand Painted Zine, Part 9 (Something Simple)

Recently I saw this painting by Dr.Seuss called Archbishop Katz in His Cathedral and I loved that the character was very small, and most of the painting was a playful geometric composition.

So wanted to borrow the same formula for a drawing. I started by filling out the page with a set of isometric platforms, or paths, something like this:

For the previous isometric designs I have been using a simple grid guide on Procreate, but I found a an older app that lets you "paint" into the grid making the design process a little faster. It's called Hexels and it's main audience are video game designers but it seemed to fit my workflow well. Here is a clip of it in action:

It's pretty fun, and you can export vector files of the design which are useful for plotting and perhaps laser cutting.
I even sketched out my character in Hexels, though it ended up a bit too blocky so I drew more curvy lines on it after the fact:

Of course, to get away from the computer-y look of it i put it on paper and painted it with a simple palette of fairly textured watercolors:

It's very simple but I like the way all the platforms make your eye zig zag around the page until you find the statuesque character at the bottom. I hope you like it.
This update didn't go out in October as I had planned, so you should expect a second update towards the end of this month as well.
Thank you so much for your support!
Federico :)
