Hand Painted Zine, Part 2

The frame by frame video above turned out a little better than the previous one. Here is a YouTube link to the same video for easier sharing and viewing.
For some reason I keep on drawing characters that are sleeping or resting, maybe that's a hint for the title of this zine 😴
Process:
Once again I decided to recreate a drawing from a sketchbook but with some modifications, this was the starting point:

I changed the front of the creature/space ship to house the sleeping character and added a frame on the top left. The frame was inspired by another sketchbook page I liked:

I finalized the sketch digitally using the Procreate app on the iPad then printed it to transfer it onto watercolor paper, here is the final sketch:

I printed the page, then I used a light box to pencil this image onto watercolor paper, then i started painting.
To make the scanning process a little easier I taped the page to a piece of plywood that fits perfectly on the scanner bed:

I scanned a total of 20 frames:

Not sure if this is an ideal way to document the process but at least I'm getting better at making this kind of animation 😆
The final image:

I think weirdness has been accomplished!
Other experiments with geometric watercolors:
I thought I'd be nice to include these in the update as I made them during the last few weeks. In some ways i was trying to figure out which pattern to include with the above illustration. These are all headed to a show of random sketches I was invited to, and the size is 6.5"x6.5"
These 3 are my favorites:

The following ones are some experiments with Truchet Tiles. The first one is ok, i like the direction but I'm not super happy with the palette:

Another variation on Truchet Tiles, I like the idea but it feels a little messy:

With this last one I was trying to use some randomized quilting patterns. I feel like it has potential but I wasn't super happy with the colors and the layering, feels a bit scattered:

For reference here is the digital file without color:

Wow, so many images on this update 😅
I hope your year is off to a good start!
Federico.
