Hand Painted Zine, Part 13 (Procrastination Projects)

On my last post I was attempting to capture the spontaneity of first sketches. I wanted to produce something similar for this month but I wanted to give myself the opportunity to warm up by filling a few pages with spontaneous drawings.

It started on my sketchbook:

This is what I call a Procrastination Project. You know, when you are supposed to be working on something, but then a different project suddenly becomes important. But all along you know you are avoiding the real one. Sometimes the procrastination project is the dishes, or moping the floor, or cleaning the closet. My procrastination project became coloring the warm-ups.

And in this particular case the real one was a page for the zine on watercolor paper with watercolor paints. But of course I had to start coloring another one of these pages, all along trying to convince myself that it was just a study for the real one.

So there you have it:

And I liked it enough to want to color the third one. Though this time I scanned it in stages so I could get a bonus animation out of my weakness:

I feel like his vibe is a sort of old green man yelling at cloud.

But I have a feeling the green character will return in watercolor form. I like the way the snake wraps around him forming the letter S and perhaps we'll find out why he's running or what is he angry about.

Stay tuned for next month. And thank you as always for the support!
