Considering Closing My Patreon

You may have noticed that I paused billing for December on Patreon. I did it because I needed a little time to think.

I've been enjoying the monthly deadline to post something on Patreon for about 5 years now (though there were times with higher frequency) but this year my creative output took a number of hits. Probably the most top of mind is that I decided around the middle of the year to start working with a therapist on a certain phobia that was making it hard to take care of my health. And oh man, therapy takes work! 😅

That process took some energy that I would otherwise had devoted to working on projects, it also caused a sort of overall shift that I'm still trying to understand, also, I'm not totally done with it. And when I feel uncertain, or overwhelmed, my tendency is to simplify things.

That's why I decided to stop posting on Patreon, at least for a while. I will certainly not stop making creative things, but for now I feel I need to give myself space to regroup, to rethink what my output looks like. And it's hard to ask folks for money when I'm trying to take a break.

Logistics

Besides pausing billing for one month at the time, Patreon doesn't offer easy ways to make this transition.

  • One option is to simply unpublish the page which suspends billing and hides the page and work from public view.

  • Another option, specially if I want to continue publishing less frequent updates, is to ask all paying members to cancel their subscription (but still follow the page for free).

If I unpublish the Patreon page I would like to migrate all the work somewhere else and make it available to you. After putting all that effort on it it feels weird to simply banish it. For now feel free to save anything that you like from the past posts, I won't take any action without notifying you. I'll be sure to have an update early next year.

Please reply if you have any comments or suggestions on how to proceed. I'm truly grateful for your support, it really means a lot that you'd back to some weirdo on the internet trying to make strange, silly things.

Wishing you happy holidays from sunny L.A.

Federico 😊
