A creature stands before a crystal. They are both perplexed by their lack of mutual understanding. The crystal is a highly ordered structure with defined faces, the creature's life lacks definition and if there are any faces to be recognized in its life they are blurry at the edges. There is also mutual envy. The creature longs for cohesion, brilliance, and the ability to float. The crystal longs for the softness and vulnerability of living things -some of the crystal's peers have been known to mimic living things, perhaps as an expression of this longing.
But there is also a shared fascination in the floating blue spheres with their perfect roundness -which the crystal loves- and their ephemeral nature, an existence shorter than any living thing. This is their common ground.
