68/100 - Arms have eyes

The face features on this cheeky guy come from the dragon on day 66. And the twisty arms  with eyes were the result of revising an interesting shape on my sketchbook over several days. I enjoy some of these shape "obsessions" that develop in there. The recent pages are sprinkled with half formed shapes and sketches that I draw over and over until they seem ready, some days it is a sort of warm-up exercise, I retrace and rework things in pencil but moving relatively quickly from one to the other without thinking they will become something. I believe they need to ferment away from the spotlight and there is a fun non-consecutive way about that method. Not that there is a lot of theory behind my sketchbook, but these things arise as a function of time spent using it as a tool.

In other news I found out today that my work was featured on a well know arts blog called This is Colossal and it felt very nice. They featured the kinetic pieces from 2017, a project that keeps on giving and that I'm still struggling to develop further, perhaps that will be a project to explore on Patreon in the future. Here is the article https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2020/06/federico-tobon-machines/

Today's piece is 4" by 3". Available here(sold).
