26/100 - Protector of dreams

Two sleepy characters in a row, something is going on here. I have mixed feelings about the idea that all art is self portrait but in this case I see some of myself. As if the drawing is trying to show me as two different creatures in one: a mustachioed hyper-alert turtle that contains within herself a sleeping, dreaming, softer character.
In this sense this is art as divination because I didn't set out to do this intentionally, but I'm trying to get some insight by interpreting it. I think I'm sleeping all right these days, barring the odd anxiety dream that I've attributed to the pandemic, but I do long for a more careless state. I think I find that careless dreaming state in short bursts, specially when I'm drawing, worrying only about lines and ink and imagined creatures. And those moments are facilitated by the turtle, relentless turtle, solid turtle. The one aspect of myself that worries about getting up, getting things done, cooking meals.
But it is not always fun being the turtle, perhaps I need to draw her taking a nap. Art as conjuration.
Turtle, protector of dreams, is 4" by 2.5".
