16/100 - Robot bird

One fun thing about a daily drawing practice is that you will jump at any opportunity to make something. There is no waiting for inspiration and almost anything can spark ideas. The image above is an example of this: I got the character's walking pose from a video I saw on twitter. It looked fun so I sketched it quickly on pencil and started adding my own flourish to it, and in a few minutes it went from random doodle on my sketchbook to drawing of the day.

However difficult it is to crank out things every day, those moments make it enjoyable. It feels quick and spontaneous, and those are features I covet when I see them in other people's work. I can sure doodle random things on my sketchbook but I rarely show those, and then there are the pieces that require multiple sketches and revisions. These daily pieces live somewhere in between. I want to have something that feels finished at the end, but at the same time I want to give myself more permission to explore. It's funny that a daily deadline provides that balance. This is yet another thing that makes me realize that restrictions are good friends with creativity.

And speaking of daily deadlines and moving fast, I made a silly mistake with the paypal buttons of the last few pieces I posted and they were showing as sold out. I'm so sorry.  A lot of them are actually available so please give it another try if you were thinking about getting one.

The robot bird with passenger lives on a 2.5" by 3.5" home and  is available for purchase here (update: sold).
